Excursion in Charentes-Maritime and South Vendée for the week…

A loop along water…

Day 1 :

Heading north for a loop that takes you to the heart of the Marais Poitevin … Take time to discover the lakes of Lacanau and Hourtin, where you can enjoy to do some sports, such as wakeboarding or water skiing!

Day 2 :

Then continue the go up to the “Pointe de Grave” to take the ferry to Royan! Enjoy the quiet life in this small seaside town, and then continue the journey on Oleron Island, to visit the Castle of Oléron and its citadel, the Chassiron Lighthouse and be sure to unearth some oysters from Marennes for a tasting on the edge of the ocean.

Day 3:

Now go to the maritime city of La Rochelle and its port, strolling in the city, visit the aquarium and be swept away by its history! Then join the “Ile de Ré” by the bridge and be charmed by its riches! Take the opportunity to take a leap into the past with the Vauban fortifications in Saint-Martin-de-Ré, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rejuvenate in its generous nature, offering you a walk between moors and dunes, sandy beaches and vineyards, woods and pastures in the heart of this little gem jealously guarded.

Day 4 :

Then road to the Marais Poitevin, starting with Luzon starting point for many walks hidden in the swamps! You can enjoy many reserves and other observation sites of animals from the region. Heading to the heart of the Marais Poitevin Interregional Park, where you can go for a walk along the water and make a small gourmet break and enjoy local specialties like cheese cake or the marbled eel “à la mode Vendée”.

Day 5 :

Then go to Niort and discover traces of its past as a merchant town. Also visit the dungeon of Eleanor of Aquitaine, one of the largest Romans twin towers of France. You can also make a nice walk along the “Coulée Verte” trail along the Sevre river.

Day 6 :

After this escapade, begin the descent into the “Saintonge Dorée” and the heart of an exceptional vineyards that will reveal to you the secrets of Cognac. Battle your way
through the vineyards to taste its riches … Then you will be going to recharge thanks to hydrotherapy Jonzac and the Caribbean, to be more relaxed to consider returning.

Day 7 :

Time to give back your Camp’in van is coming, but do not miss on the way back exploration of the vineyards of Blaye, and take the opportunity to also visit the Citadel of Blaye before returning to Bordeaux!
