Gilles has set up a surprise to his sweet since long time. She has come at Camp In Van and discovering Oasis, she has been a bit excited because she felt a great experience coming! She has even taken time to write down what they did in the Oasis’s travel book.
“First day: Le Cap Ferret, first oyters, yummy! Night spent at Le Truc Vert (the Green Stuff). 12 hours of sleep!!
2nd day : Le Ferret – Arès – Andernos – Audenge – Le Teich – La Hume – La Teste, nobody in the strets. Oysters again for lunch in Andernos, then heading to La Dune du Pyla, where we climbed. View is stunning, high tide is coming. We went South toward Biscarosse, with a shower on the beach (brrrrr)
3rd day : Rainy wake up along the Biscarosse Lake. Heading South, Mimizan, then L’Homy beach. No open campgrounds, we had to get water from the cemetery for showers (there is always water there). At l’Homy cape, the carpark overlooks the huge beach, the sunset is wonderful. Sleeping in Oasis is perfect, we felt so peaceful. Down the beach, surfers were enjoying waves!
4th day : A big night again and breakfast in bed! Road is still so quiet, full of pinetrees, ferns and beautiful timbered houses. Passing through St Girons, Moliet, Vieux Boucau and Soustons. Tiny green driveway, “casernes” beach, Seignosse and Hossegor! Here the city is! We were reaching Capbreton, quick meal and overnight at Labenne Ocean. We did not wanted to go further South, too city before going back in the Basque Country mountains.
5th day : Wet and cold night …. brrrrr …. The worst place since the beginning. We finally have decided to go to Saint Jean de Luz, to see how it is, we will come back if it worth it! Biarritz with its big old mansions, Guéthary and its red roofs, but we did not cross either Georges or Fred… Then Saint Jean de Luz and Hendaye where we swam in the Ocean and outside shower, this is amazing! We went through the border at Irun, then spent the night in the campground of “Cabo Higuer” point, where view is stunning and showers are hot!
6th day : Better night, without any wetness! Coffee at the end of the campground and early take-off toward San Sebastian, to catch the green road of the Jaizkibel mount, with a lovely view. We hit back the road to France and the Basque Country, with a short stop in St Pée sur Nivelle for a lunch at Ttotta. A little tour in Espelette, its pepper then the long way back home, through little roads to the Homy cape, our best spot for the night, with a great dinner in front of the sunset.
7th day : Last day with Oasis. We did appreciated it, it is driving so well! Heading Mimizan, lunch at Biscarosse’s lake, at “port Maguide” (really good). Little swim in the Ocean for Gilles and cold shower despite the shiny sun. We get back on the road to the Cap Ferret, passing through Lanton to buy some oysters to an oyster farmer, before a tasting at the Grand Crohot Ocean, facing a perfect sunset. Awesome week with Oasis, it started without any troubles, even by -4°C in the Homy. It is driving perfectly on the big straight lines and we slept so well inside! Thank you! :)”
Thank you for the story, which pleased us, because we found back the joy you have felt in telling us the trip! Thank you for all those pictures:
