A little week into the Basque Country … 7 days

From Abbadia to Ossau Valley, for nature addicts…

Day 1 :

Heading to the French Basque Country, to discover the Observatory Castle of Abbadia next to Hendaye and admire the building of neo-Gothic architecture erected facing the ocean. You can take the opportunity to go for a ride on the cities of Hendaye, Urrugne and why not a little jump on the Spanish side, in Hondarribia or Irun.

Day 2 :

Now, road  to Sare, where you can climb the Rhune, by train or by foot for the bravest! Take your time to enjoy the riches of the Basque Country.


Day 3 :

Then go up the Nivelle valley, stop in the capital of AOC Piment Espelette then continue to the ancient walled citadel of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, a key step in the heart of the Basque Country, on the paths of “St. Jacques de Compostelle”. And for foodies, do not hesitate one second to throw yourself into the discovery of the Basque culinary heritage, by finding here and there a few farms and local producers!


Day 4 :

Continue your journey to the Aspe valley, where you can discover the hilltop village of Aydius on the Ourdinse Plateau, with breathtaking views of the Central Pyrenees.

Day 5 :

Pyrénées - Vallée d'OssauNow you can join the Ossau valley, where you can enjoy around the famous cheese Ossau-Iraty, flagship of the local cuisine. Stop by Laruns where you can take the opportunity to plan the rise of the Pic du Midi d’Ossau or a Canyoning descent, accompanied by a guide, if time permits …

Day 6 :

Having tasted true Basque Country and the Pyrenees, let’s stop at Pau on your way back! The Castle, the vineyards of Jurançon, or the medieval city of Lescar.


Day 7 :

The return is coming too fast, don’t worry, before arriving at Camp’in Van, take time to pause around Langon to discover or rediscover the vineyards and the Chateau of Sauternes, where you can learn the secret of what we call gold wines.
